Sea Surface Temperature Virtual Constellation

sst-constellation

The SST-VC serves as the formal link between the Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) and the broader CEOS community. At the highest level, the SST-VC provides a means for CEOS to present to GHRSST its needs and requirements, and for GHRSST to present its needs directly to global community of space agencies. In addition, there are several thematic connections between GHRSST and CEOS that take place at the working group level (for example, between the GHRSST Climate Data Record TAG and the CEOS Working Group on Climate).

GHRSST has been producing standardized satellite-based SST products in netCDF since 2005 and continues to do so in coordination with the SST-VC to this day.  Data sets from within 30 days of observation are available from the GHRSST Global Data Assembly Center at the NASA JPL Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (http://ghrsst.jpl.nasa.gov), after which they become available in perpetuity at the GHRSST Long Term Stewardship and Reanalysis Facility at the NOAA National Oceanographic Data Center (http://ghrsst.nodc.noaa.gov).  Later in 2012, all GHRSST/SST-VC data sets will be accessible via the CEOS Integrated Data Network (IDN) and CEOS-WGISS Integrated Catalog (CWIC).

Documents pertinent to the SST-VC can be found here.
