Just last week, at the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Marrakech, Morocco, the UNFCCC Secretariat called the first Earth Information Day: a full day meeting for presentations and discussions on current Earth observation capabilities, developments, and opportunities.
This successful meeting reinforced how systematic Earth observations are “the fundamental basis upon which the UNFCCC was founded, the Paris Agreement was adopted, and decision-making at all levels on climate change mitigation and adaptation depend.”
“The Earth Information Day presents the opportunity to optimise engagement and connect information and requirements between the science community, Party and non-Party stakeholders to benefit the intergovernmental process, and Paris Agreement implementation.” |
