The renown Remote Sensing of Environment Journal has published a Special Issue on EO4SDG which was co-edited by Graciela Metternicht (UNSW), and members of CEOS SDG AHT Argyro Kavvada (GEO, NASA), Flora Kerblat (CSIRO), Lawrence Friedl (GEO, NASA), Alex Held (CSIRO) , including an editorial introducing the issue.

EO Handbook 2018 Special Edition:Satellite Earth Observations in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals

This 2018 Special Edition of the Earth Observation Handbook – Satellite Earth Observations in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals – is the 3 rd thematic EO Handbook (preceded by the EO Handbooks on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate). Coordinated by ESA on behalf of the CEOS Ad Hoc Team on SDGs, with valuable contributions from Symbios Spazio, the GEO Initiative on SDGs (EO4SDG), and the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), this 100-page Handbook promotes and showcases the contribution of Earth observations to the realization of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, its goals and targets, and to the SDG Global Indicator Framework.

Good Practice Guidance for SDG Indicator 15.3.1

This Good Practice Guidance Document, edited from a report prepared by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and published by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), provides guidance on methodologies and data options for progressing on SDG Indicator 15.3.1 – proportion of land that is degraded over total land area. This document is an important achievement with global impact for monitoring Indicator 15.3.1 and may help facilitate the development of harmonized methods for other Tier III Indicators.
