CEOS Address to IAC2022
The CEOS Chair, Selma Cherchali, addressed the 73rd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) on behalf of CEOS, on Sunday 18 September 2022, in Paris, France. Dr. Cherchali gave the keynote speech to open the Earth Observation Symposium, in a session titled “International Cooperation in Earth Observation Missions”.
The Earth Observation Symposium is organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), who also organise IAC, and covers all aspects of Earth observations from space, especially observations related to the Earth’s environment and including mission planning, microwave and optical sensors and technologies, systems for land, oceanographic, and atmospheric applications, ground data-processing.
The session focused on efforts being made by governments, agencies and society to achieve coordination, cooperation and compatibility in the development of space-based Earth observation systems. Presenters spoke on cooperative efforts between nations, especially with developing countries, as well as current and ongoing missions involving coordination among commercial, governmental and other entities. The session involved a diverse range of speakers, with public and private organisations represented from France, Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the United States.
