This furthers its mission to ensure the sustained coordination of disaster-related activities undertaken by the CEOS Agencies and to act as an interface with the community of stakeholders, partners and users committed to disaster risk reduction. This paper explores the implementation of this strategy and it’s aligned with the objectives of the working group for the 2020 – 2022 time period. |
The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters | The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters provides a unified system of space data acquisition and delivery to those affected by natural or man-made disasters through Authorized Users. Each member agency has committed resources to support the provisions of the Charter and thus is helping to mitigate the effects of disasters on human life and property. |
Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group | The DRR WG was created to develop and implement a coherent and crosscutting approach within GEO to advance the use of Earth observations (EO) in support of national disaster risk reduction and resilience efforts. It will promote awareness of relevant global policy frameworks, such as the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and UN-Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM) WG-Disasters Strategic Framework on Geospatial Information and Services. It also serves as the primary GEO liaison to UNDRR. |
United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015 – 2030 | The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai Framework) was the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda and provides Member States with concrete actions to protect development gains from the risk of disaster. |
CEOS Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Observation Strategy | The DRM Observation Strategy is a response to a collection of observation requirements from the user community to enable the delivery of three coordinated pilots to be implemented in 2014-2016 in three thematic areas: floods, seismic hazards, and volcanoes. |
